the next generation Xbox thumb Rumored Specs For Next Xbox

With E3 only a few short months away the rumors will be ramping up on if Microsoft will announce a new Xbox and what the specs will be for it. From the list that has been rumored to be leaked the new Xbox is going to be a very powerful machine.

Rumored Specs:

  • Blu-Ray player
  • WiFi and Ethernet for connecting to the Internet and playing games online
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • USB 3.0 ports for accessories
  • HDMI port that works with 3D TVs and ultra high-resolution “4K” TVs
  • Hard drive for game saves, music, videos, downloadable games, etc.
  • Built-in Kinect sensor for motion-controlled gaming

A lot of these specs do make sense when you think about it. With it rumored to be able to push 4K resolution, the system is going to need the hardware to do it. The only reason to put Blu-Ray in is for the additional storage capacity for games since Microsoft backs streaming and digital downloading more.  Plus putting this much power in the hardware makes sense for longevity. The current Xbox 360 is 7 years old going on 8 and still going strong so they will want to match that same longevity for the next console. Sony has consistently done this over the years with the PS1, PS2 and PS3 with 10 year life cycles but they usually have two consoles going on at the same time as Microsoft will most likely cut Xbox 360 development outright to make way for the next gen system.

I also believe that this won’t debut at E3 but rather a separate press event by Microsoft. Companies have become more favorable to their own press events rather than announce at a big trade show where they have to share the spotlight. Plus this console will be more focused on home entertainment then gaming which if they have a separate conference to debut it before this year’s E3 it allows them to focused on both the casual and home markets and then the hardcore gamer at E3. We will have to wait and see for now but let us know what you think below.
